Your Planned Surgery
Please take some time to read this information carefully.
If you have any concerns leading up to your surgery, please feel
free to telephone our office for any clarification you may
need.
Once your surgery has been booked, it is your responsibility to
check with your health fund that you are sufficiently
covered. If you have not been with your health fund for over
12 months, then you problem may be classed as pre-existing and your
health fund may not accept the claim for payment. This will
need to be sorted out prior to your surgery. If you are a
workcover, public liability or 3rd party then approval from the
insurance company holding your claim will be sought. You will
be contacted by our office once this has been approved.
If you do not understand the procedure you will be having, or
the possible risks of the surgery, please make another appointment
to see Dr Nimon prior to surgery.
If you are not correctly fasted for your anaesthetic, the
operation may be cancelled or postponed until you are correctly
fasted.
You may have been advised to stop taking any aspirin,
anti-inflammatories or Warfarin. If you are
taking regular medication i.e. HRT or blood pressure, please
do not stop taking them. Take these medications with a sip of
water.
Make sure you take your xrays to the hospital on the day of
surgery.
Following surgery if you are a Day case you will be allowed to
go home when comfortable. Please make sure you have an
adult relative or friend to collect you from the hospital and
someone to stay with you for 24 hours following surgery.
Accounts
Dr Nimon is "gap covered" with most health funds. This
means you should not receive an account from our office as we use
the Ezi Claim Gap system, where the private health fund will pay
some or all of the "gap" on your behalf. However, Dr Nimon
reserves the right to charge a "gap" if the surgery is classed as
trauma or an emergency.
You may receive an account from the Anaesthetist. Please
feel free to contact him/her directly to find out if there
will be a gap payment. You will find the contact details on
the Hospital Admission Details letter.
At most surgical procedures an Assistant Doctor is
required. You may receive an account from him/her.
You may also require services from the following and therefore
an account may be received.
- Pathology (not all surgery requires this).
- Radiology (not all surgery requires this).
- Physiotherapy (not all surgery requires this).
